 Description: The following is an edited version from the weekly Vietnam Communique column in the 17 Aug 1968 issue.
The Americal Div killed 127 enemy during a week of frequent and scattered fighting. Units of the 196th LIB killed eight VC and one NVA during scattered action in Operation Wheeler/Wallowa. Six of the kills were reported by door gunners of the command and control helicopter from the 4/3rd Inf. Units of the 3/21st Inf killed three enemy in separate incidents west of Tam Ky. Elements of the 11th LIB reported sporadic contacts throughout Quang Ngai Province as they killed 10 enemy and detained 10 suspects. Soldiers of the 3/1st Inf killed seven enemy during reconnaissance operations five miles NW of Duc Pho. Another element of the battalion, sweeping an area 11 miles NW of Duc Pho, killed two enemy in separate contacts. The battalion's C&C helicopter reported killing one VC soldier 14 miles NW of Duc Pho.
