Description: The following is an edited version from the weekly Vietnam Communique column in the 17 Aug 1968 issue.
The 1st Air Cav soldiers killed 23 enemy in a week of light contact. The 2/8th Cav killed six NVA soldiers during a series of clashes in the mountains 15 miles SW of Camp Evans. A reconnaissance element of the battalion, hiding in an ambush position, observed a group of NVA moving along a narrow winding trail shortly after daybreak. The Skytroopers opened up on the enemy with small arms fire and killed four of the NVA. One more enemy was killed later in the same location. One mile west of the ambush location, another unit of the battalion called in artillery on snipers. The high-explosive rounds killed one NVA.
