Description: The following is an edited version from the weekly Vietnam Communique column in the 17 Aug 1968 issue. The 1st Inf Div killed 31 enemy soldiers. Gunship crews of the D/1/4th Cav, 1st Inf Div were flying over a wooded area 45 miles NW of Saigon on a VR mission when one of the crewmen spotted a truck. Dropping down for a closer look, the crew came under machinegun fire. They immediately returned fire and reported killing three VC. The B/2/2nd Inf were on a reconnaissance-in-force mission 33 miles north of Saigon when they discovered an abandoned bunker complex. A thorough search of the camp revealed 26,800 pounds of rice.
