Battle of Dak Seang information
for A-245 SF DET
CIDG

For date 680818

A-245 SF DET was a US Army unit
CIDG was a Civilian Irregular Defense Group unit
Primary service involved, US Army
Kontum Province, II Corps, South Vietnam
Location, Dak Seang
Description: The 101D NAV Regt took advantage of the darkness and bad weather to attempt a quick victory. At 0330H they shelled the compound with mortars and B-40 rockets followed by a three-company assault on the western perimeter while a reinforced company hit the eastern wire. After 20 minutes these assaults were broken up. At 0425H another assault breached the wife. Air support was hindered by the weather. The enemy assault was beaten back with artillery and defensive fires. The battle of Dak Seang was a splendid example of the ability of a fortified CIDG camp to defeat a determined assault with a minimum of outside assistance.
