Description: The 155th Aviation Company unit history states that at 0105H the Battle of Duc Lap began. The 23d ARVN DIV made an urgent request for armed helicopter support and two gunships were on station 30 minutes later. They provided continuous armed helicopter support throughout that day and into the night. At 0700H, while engaging a hostile force, one UH-1C was shot down. Although one crew member had gunshot wounded, the crew fought their way to a friendly compound 100 meters away where they were later evacuated. During the morning, they provided five slicks to help reinforce the camp. CAs continued even under intense enemy ground and anti-aircraft fire. Their aircraft received 28 rounds from SA and AA fire during the day. They supplied the majority of the aviation support for the first three days of the Battle of Duc Lap.
