Description: The 95C NVA Regt initiated a probe supported by intensive mortar and rocket fire at 0130H. Two battalions from the 320th NVA Regt assaulted the district headquarters four miles away. By dawn the camp was surrounded by the NVA infantry. AA fire downed an USAF F-100. The pilot was saved when SF personnel sped out of the camp in two vehicles to rescue him. Two 2d Mobile Strike Force companies from Pleiku airmobiled to the north of the camp but were driven back by entrenched NVA. That night the NVA stormed the smaller, northern hill of the camp which had no SF or LLDB leadership. The NVA took the hill and used the captured weapons and stacks of ammo on the other hill.
