Description: The following is an edited version from the weekly Vietnam Communique column in the 31 Aug 1968 issue. The Screaming Eagles of the 101st Abn Div Div, in a week of light action, reported killing 43 enemy soldiers. Operation Somerset Plain continued to meet light resistance as the 101st conducted search operations in the A Shau Valley area. While conducting a screening operation west of Aluoi, helicopter crews of B/1/9th Air Cav, a 1st Air Cav Div unit operating under the control of the 101st, spotted a reinforced NVA squad. Airstrikes and Arty killed eight of the enemy. Soldiers of the 1st ARVN Regt working with the 101st killed 10 enemy and captured 10 weapons when they engaged an NVA force in the A Shau Valley. Artillery and airstrikes supported the ground troops in the action.
