199 LIB was a US Army unit
Primary service involved, US Army
South Vietnam

Description: The following is an edited version from the weekly Vietnam Communique column in the 14 Sep 1968 issue. Redcatchers of the 199th LIB encountered light action during operations south and west of Saigon during the week. A night patrol form the 6/31st Inf engaged two VC in a sampan south of Saigon. A brief firefight ended when a grenade sank the sampan. A search of the river failed to reveal any bodies. On several days the 199th called in airstrikes to destroy enemy bunkers they had discovered.
