Description: The following is an edited version from the Americal Daily News Sheets Vol. 2. No. 171 Monday October 7. CHU LAI (AMERICAL IO) - Americal Division forces accounted for 11 VC and four NVA killed, one crew-served and four NVA killed, one crew-served and four individual weapons captured in light scattered action in the southern I Corps Tactical Zone yesterday. 11th Inf. Bde. soldiers killed eight VC and detained seven suspects in action around Duc Pho yesterday. Late Saturday night troops of a 3d Bn., 1st Inf. company led by SGT Clive W. Wang (Chicago, IL) spotted a group of VC near Highway 515, seven miles northwest of Duc Pho. The VC were engaged, resulting in two VC killed, two packs and one Chicom grenade captured. Later the "Always First" soldiers killed one VC in a rice paddy near the same site. National Police working with troops of a 3d Bn., 1st Inf. company killed five VC in a tunnel and captured homemade hand grenades, north of Duc Pho. The "Always First" soldiers detained seven VC suspects in yesterday's action. In the 196th Inf. Bde's. area of operations "Charger" units killed three NVA and captured one crew-served and four individual weapons. A 4th Bn., 21st Inf. company engaged and killed one NVA with small arms fire 14 miles southwest of Hoi Ann. The "Gimlets" captured one AK-47 rifle that he had been carrying. The company also engaged and killed two more NVA 15 miles southwest of Hoi An and captured three AK-47 rifles. A 4th Bn., 31st Inf. company working in the same vicinity found one RPG-7. Units of the 198th Inf. Bde. killed one NVA in light contact yesterday. A 1st Bn., 52d Inf. company led by 1LT Michael J. Deal (Arlington, VA) killed one NVA in the Burlington Trail area yesterday afternoon. Civic Action soldiers of the Bde. treated 277 Vietnamese during two MEDCAPs in the Chu Lai area. The 1st Sqdn., 1st Armored Cav. reported three VC killed yesterday. The three VC were killed by "F" Trp., 8th Cav. in the Operation Burlington Trail area.
