Description: The following is an edited version from the weekly Vietnam Communique column in the 11 Nov 1968 issue. In a week of scattered light action Skytroopers of the 1st Cav Div killed 14 enemy while uncovering several caches of rice. Elements of the 1/12th Cav operating five miles NE of Quang Tri City, found 1,000 pounds of paddy rice lying on the ground. The rice was evacuated for redistribution to Vietnamese civilians. Another rice cache was found by the 2/7th Cav when they discovered two bunkers eight miles north of Camp Evans. A search of the bunkers revealed 3,500 pounds of paddy rice. A weapons cache was uncovered by the 1/8th Cav 10 miles south of Quang Tri City. Packaged in boxes were 42 75mm RR rounds, 15 81mm mortar rounds, seven rocket rounds and two cases of .30-caliber ammunition.
