Description: The following is an edited version from the weekly Vietnam Communique column in the 11 Nov 1968 issue.
Red Devils of the 1/61st Inf, 1st Bde, 5th Inf Div reported killing 297 enemy soldiers in two days of fierce fighting. Continuing an action that began on Oct 25, the infantrymen reported killing seven NVA while artillery and Air Force tactical airstrikes supporting them accounted for 58 more NVA soldiers. The area of contact, a small NVA basecamp consisting of six buildings connected by trenches, contained 2,300 pounds of rice, 100 pounds of medical supplies, 25 rounds of 60mm mortar ammunition and 850 rounds of small arms ammunition.
