Description: The following is an edited version from the weekly Vietnam Communique column in the 11 Nov 1968 issue.
Soldiers of the 9th Inf Div killed 87 enemy in moderate action. On Oct. 27 elements of the division's 1st Bde, supporting gunship crews and Air Force tactical airstrikes accounted for 33 enemy killed. At noon, elements of the 1st Bde were air and water-assaulted into an area around the Nha Be River, five miles east of Can Giuoc. Gunship crews from A/3/17th Cav made initial contact with an enemy force and killed 15. Elements form the 3/39th Inf, using U.S. Navy armored troop carriers, advanced into the area while other infantrymen were air-inserted. An Air Force forward air controller directed airstrikes, which were credited with killing three enemy. Fourteen other enemy were killed by the advancing infantrymen. There were two U.S. soldiers wounded in the action.
