Location, FSPB Rita
Description: Elements of the 1/26th Inf and 1/4th Cav, 1st Inf Div were on FSPB Rita, located 15 miles northeast of Tay Ninh, when a large NVA force attacked and breached the perimeter. The enemy got to within 45 yards of the howitzer positions before they were killed or driven back. Direct arty fire was used during the 3 hour battle. There were 27 NVA bodies found in the wire. No search of the outer area was conducted but unconfirmed FAC reports indicated a possible 400 to 500 bodies were lying in the woods. The US forces were part of TOAN THANG II and suffered 12 KIA and 54 WIA.
