Description: The following is an edited version from the weekly Vietnam Communique column in the 27 Jan 1969 issue. Moderate contact was experienced by the 25th Inf Div during the past week as they reported killing 71 enemy soldiers. On Jan 13, 13 enemy were killed during scattered contacts. In the largest action of the day, elements of the 3/4th Cav killed six enemy during a brief fire fight 10 miles north of Trang Bang. The soldiers began receiving small arms fire from an estimated platoon-size VC force. Fire was returned immediately and artillery and gunship support was called in forcing the enemy to withdraw. During a sweep of the area, two wounded suspects were detained along with one crew served and three individual weapons. Three enemy were killed after an artillery observer called in fire from the 1/27th Arty on 16 VC he had spotted five miles northeast of Dau Tieng, while four more enemy were killed in as many actions elsewhere by other division units.
