Description: The following is an edited version from the weekly Vietnam Communique column in the 27 Jan 1969 issue. Action was light during the week for soldiers of the 101st Abn Div as they reportedly killed 19 enemy. On Jan 9 an ambush patrol from the 2/327th Inf encountered an estimated 20 enemy as they departed the Nuo Ngot bridge, 17 miles west of Hue. Engaging the enemy force, the unit killed seven and detained one other. Soldiers from the 1/501st Inf directed artillery fire on two sampans eight miles east of Hue, killing three enemy. Other battalion soldiers killed one more enemy in the same area. On Jan 13 a sniper team from the 2/327th Inf engaged an eight-man rice carrying team nine miles east of Phu Loc, killing three and capturing three weapons. Another battalion element killed one enemy during reconnaissance-in-force operations 15 miles east of Phu Bai.
