Description: A/7/17th Cav reported the lead Scout ship received fire and was shot down upon making it's second pass. The crash set off a secondary explosion which totally burned the ship. The pilot and observer escaped and were medevaced to Camp Radcliff. The gunships made runs and remained in the area to support a rifle company already in the area. Further inspection of the area revealed a large bunker complex, a company size unit of NVA, food and cookware, clothes, 150 lbs of rice, and one NVA canteen. The C&C CE was wounded when the ship suddenly recieved a volly of enemy fire and he was evaced to Camp Radcliff. The Blues were inserted and found numerous caves, structured, sleeping platforms, and rice bowels. One NVA soldier was captured.
