for A/7/17 CAV

For date 700407

A/7/17 CAV was a US Army unit
Primary service involved, US Army
Kontum Province, II Corps, South Vietnam
Location, southwest of Dak Seang
Description: A/7/17th Cav reported that elements began reconnoitering an area southwest of Dak Seang. Heavy usage indicated that the Scouts had discovered an important enemy inflitration route. Two platoons of NVA were thought to be in the area. At approximately 1100H their gunships engaged a large enemy force. They received intense fire but continued to make passes expending rockets and minigun ordanance. Time and time again the Scouts were driven from the area because of heavy fire. At 1235H the lift ships arrived with the Blues to sweep the area. After several unsuccessful attempts, due to the intense AA fire, the lift ships were finally able to make the insertion. Though the enemy contact was light for the rest of the day, the Blues uncovered 10 NVA bodies along with numerous rifle and mortar rounds.
