unit history information
for A/7/17 CAV

For date 700610

A/7/17 CAV was a US Army unit
Primary service involved, US Army
Darlac Province, II Corps, South Vietnam
Location, Ban Me Thout
Description: A/7/17th Cav reported while on a VR mission near Ban Me Thout they uncovered a large enemy complex that included 10 bunkers with 4 under construction, a number of sleeping areas, several hootches, and personal equipment spread throughout the area. The Guns rolled in and completely destroyed it. The Blues were then inserted by the Lift to survey the damage and gather any intelligence possible. The Blues found food, NVA clothing, medical supplies, and an extensive array of personal equipment. Then, directed by the Scouts, the Blues swept through another nearby complex that was completely booby trapped. The skill and professionalism of the infantry proved unmeasurable once again as they analyzed and avoided the pending hazard. Taken from the second complex were useful documents left by the enemy. After the Blues were extracted, the Guns again destroyed it, proving their right to be called "RUTHLESS RIDERS."
