Description: The following is an edited version of an article titled "Div Recap: Heavy action near Tam Ky" by SP4 Stephen Frazier (Americal IO). CHU LAI - Daily light contact and the findings of a few caches seemed to be the daily itinerary for the 198th Infantry Brigade units. Except for one isolated incident soldiers of the 198th fought no more than one to five enemy soldiers in each engagement. On Friday a large cache was discovered when a rallier led Echo Recon, 5th Battalion, 46th Infantry to the site 15 miles northeast of Chu Lai. An element of the 1st Battalion, 52nd Infantry while on a sweep 15 miles southeast of Chu Lai found a three by seven foot bunker which produced five NVA field pack, two canteens and 15 CHICOM grenades.
