Description: 01Mar71- Vietnam communiqué Feb. 08-14 Page 2 1st Cav Div In Military Region 3 late in the evening of Feb. 8, an artillery element of the 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile), while in a night defensive position 14 miles northwest of Ham Tan, received less than five rounds of an undetermined-type mortar fire resulting in light casualties with no fatalities and light materiel damage. Three days later in the same region, an element of the 1st Bde. received small arms fire while on a reconnaissance mission 12 miles northeast of Bien Hoa City. The contact, lasting 30 minutes and supported by tactical air strikes and artillery, resulted in four enemy killed and three individual weapons captured. One U.S. soldier was killed and 10 wounded.
