Description: 08Mar71- Over easy,.....sir'
PLEIKU - The officers and enlisted men of the 179th Assault Support Helicopter Co., 52nd Aviation Bn., 17th Combat Aviation Gp., were treated to breakfast by their battalion commander, Lt. Col. Ronald H. Merritt, and his staff, which included the battalion XO, S1 and Sergeant Major, here Feb. 3. Behind this momentous occasion was a promise Merritt made to Maj. John Hopkins, commanding officer of the 179th Shrimpboats, that "if you get 100 per cent availability of you Chinooks (CH47s), I'll personally cook breakfast for the entire company." On Feb. 2, Hopkins had his derosing Champagne Flight, and trailing him came 11 test flights at the same time, proving without a doubt that they had attained their required 100 per cent. Bright and early the next morning, Merritt and his Galloping Gourmet staff showed up in their cook whites to make good his promise. But as usual, one sleepy-eyed specialist walked into the mess hall and gave out his usual order, "Hey, Spoon....over easy," then opening his eyes a little, and almost in disbelief he corrected his order, "I mean over easy, sir."
