More detail on this person: DUBOIS - Memorial services with military honors for Edgar L. "Buzz" Bardtrief Jr., 70, will be held at a later date in Temecula, Calif.

He died July 30, 2006, at his home in Dubois.

He was born July 8, 1936, in Wisconsin, the son of Edgar L. Bardtrief Sr., and Georgia Mozelle (Savage) Bardtrief. He graduated from Rock Springs High School.

He served with the U.S. Air Force as a Chinook helicopter pilot in Vietnam and also served in Germany.

He earned the Air Force Good Conduct Medal, Good Conduct Medal with first through third award, the Army Aviator Badge, Air Medal with second through 14th awards, two overseas awards, Air Force Longevity Service Award, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with three bronze service stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 device, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with palm and gold star, expert rifleman badge, a Bronze Star and Army Commendation Medal after re-enlistment.

He married Juanita L. Spaulding at McCord Air Force Base in Tacoma, Wash., on Aug. 19, 1984.

After 10 years with the Air Force, he joined the Oklahoma City Police Department and then the Oklahoma Highway Patrol and was an honor graduate from both academies.

He then re-entered the U.S. Army, training in Texas and Alabama.

He later relocated to Rock Springs, where he served with the police department and the Sweetwater County Sheriff's Department. He worked for Searle Brothers Helicopter and Fixed Wing until his wife's retirement.

They moved to Albuquerque and then to Dubois in 2002.

He was a member of the Catholic faith.

He enjoyed collecting and working with guns, deer hunting, golf and fly fishing. He built golf clubs for students to learn the sport.

Survivors include his wife of Dubois, a sister, Georgia Jeanine Bardtrief Higgins and her husband of Temecula, Calif., nephews and nieces, Bruce Higgins, Karl Higgins, Jeanine Denton and Christine Higgins and their children.

He was preceded in death by his parents and twin sister, Mary Constance Bardtrief Hubbard.
