More detail on this person: BOEMERMAN, Lt. Col. George Frank "Boomer" Ret., USMC Retired United States Marine Corps Lt. Col. George Frank "Boomer" Boemerman passed away peacefully, but suddenly on Thursday, July 13th, 2017, in Santa Rosa, California. He was 84 years old. Born on October 15th, 1932 to Iva Grace Osgood (later Quincy) and George Fredrick Boemerman. George grew up in Brooklyn, New York the younger brother of Iva Lillian and Edna Adele. Later, George moved to Greenwood Lake, New Jersey with his mother before enlisting in the Marine Corps in 1950. George married Shirley June Dutton in Corpus Christi on December 15th, 1955. They had two children, Steven Alfred George and Susan Elizabeth. George's 23-year military career moved his family all over the world including Japan, Florida, Hawaii, California, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Illinois, and Texas. George and Shirley loved traveling, and later enjoyed touring the country in their motor home, visiting friends in France, and going on cruises with friends. They had a wonderful 58 years of marriage, until Shirley passed away on October 10, 2013. George retired in 1976 from the Marine Corps. He was highly decorated for his years of exceptional service, receiving two Distinguished Flying Crosses, a Bronze Star, the Vietnamese Cross, and 35 Air Medals. He will forever hold the U.S. Marine Corps record of being the only person in history to have been a drill instructor, a paratrooper, a combat A-6 pilot, and a combat helicopter pilot. He had made more than 150 carrier landings throughout his career. George later found happiness by taking Marilyn Miller Williams of Petaluma, California as his second wife on May 3, 2014. They enjoyed traveling together to Virginia, North Carolina, Missouri, Kansas, and Texas. George's favorite activities were playing bridge, and spending time with his friends and family. George is survived by his son Steven and daughter Susan and their families: Steve's wife Sandra Hightower Boemerman, children Louis and Leah Boemerman, Louis' wife, Lauren Boemerman of Virginia; and Susan's husband Scott Andrews and Susan's children Emily Takami of California, and Marisa and Jordan Redd of Texas. Celebration of Life services will be held at the Price Center in San Marcos, Texas on Saturday, July 29 at 10:30 a.m. and at Hessel Church, 5060 Hessel Avenue in Sebastopol, California on Saturday, August 5 at 10:00 a.m. George will be laid to rest later this summer at Quantico National Cemetery.
