More detail on this person: Funeral services for Calvin Stuart Croom, III will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 12, 2017, in the chapel of John Kramer & Son Funeral Home, with Rev. Blaine Ussery officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home beginning on Monday, September 11, 2017, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and will resume on Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. until time of service. A Graveside service will be held in Mooringsport, LA at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 13, 2017, in the Old Mooringsport Cemetery on Lake Street. Calvin Stuart Croom, III, 74, of Alexandria, passed away on Friday, September 8, 2017, peacefully in his residence, surrounded by his wife, daughters, and family. He is preceded in death by his parents, Calvin Stuart Croom, Jr. and Jean Witchella Croom, and his nephew, Bryan Gates. Calvin graduated from LA Tech in 1964, and attended LSU Law School from 1964 to 1965. He commissioned into the United States Marine Corp in 1965. While in service he served in the Vietnam War from 1967 to 1968 as a HU1E Helicopter Pilot. He achieved the rank of Captain and received the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Purple Heart, the Presidential Unit Citation Award and the Distinguished Flying Cross. Upon his completion of service in 1971, he worked for EDS and Miller Brewing Company; he then moved his family to Alexandria where he worked as the General Manager for Venture Marketing for over 36 years. Calvin loved his family very much and was always the life of the party. He loved cooking, fishing, traveling and going to the beach. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Tina Croom; his children, Leigh Anne Hunter (Luther), Catherine Compton (Clay), and Susan Mosley (Brian) and their mother, Cherlyn M. Croom; Tina's children, Myra Pace, Krysta Foreman, and Patrick Murry; grandchildren, Hannah Hunter, Trey Hunter, Daniel Bufkin, Madison Croom, Olivia Mosley, Jackson Mosley, Henry Mosley, Luke Compton, Denomonique Scott, Devon Pace, Jonavan Foreman, Jathan Foreman, Kylie Foreman, Malichi Murry, Issac Murry, and Issaih Murry; and two great grandchildren, Leighton Hunter and Laken Williams. He also leaves behind his sisters, Mary Jean Goodwin (Alvin) and Elizabeth Gates; and a close cousin, Mark Cooley (Judy). Pallbearers honored to serve will be, Trey Hunter, Daniel Bufkin, Jackson Mosley, Mark Cooley, Robert Williams, and Bill McElwee. Honorary pallbearers will be Dallas Enlow, Luke Compton, Henry Mosley, and Steve Dryden.
