Dorman Retired Army Chief Warrant Officer Joseph Vance Dorman, 73, a resident of 6949 Brockwood St., Fayetteville, went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, Nov. 24, 2005, with his family by his side. Mr. Dorman was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He served his country proudly in the Vietnam War and had more than 29 years of service prior to retiring. He received the Bronze Star, the Silver Star and many other commendations. Mr. Dorman had a passion for flying and building with his wife and children his own Piper Tripacer airplane. He loved to restore old cars. He loved the outdoors and spent lots of time with his family camping and fishing. He was an avid golfer and bowler. Mr. Dorman is survived by his wife of 32 years, Evelyn Dorman of the home; a son, Keith D. Dorman of Fayetteville, Ark.; three daughters, Desiree Jerrell and husband, Roger, of Tallahassee, Fla., JoAnn Bailey and husband, Billy, of Hampton, Va., and Audrey L. Fox and husband, Lane, of Hertford; and a sister, Ida Belle Ryals of Sanford. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Kelly Johnson, Gary Johnson, Joseph McCray, Mallory Bailey and Austin L. Fox; and many other family and friends. A celebration of the life of Joseph Vance Dorman will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday in Rogers and Breece Funeral Home West chapel, 6330 Raeford Road, with the Rev. Jane Jones officiating. He will be laid to rest in Cumberland Memorial Gardens " Mausoleums. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 tonight. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Research Association, 742 N. Main St., Fuquay-Varina, NC 27526; or to Liberty Home Care and Hospice, 2175 Village Drive, Fayetteville, NC 28304.
