More detail on this person: Col John C. Hughes Col. John Hughes was known as "J.C." and "Corncob 6." He resided in Red Feather Lakes, Colorado. He died at the Cherry Creek Nursing Center in Aurora, Colorado. He was 79. He was the son of Maude Betty (Brafford) Hughes and Fox C. Hughes. He married Ann L. Abernathy on Nov. 13th, 1943. She preceeded him in death on June 20th, 1994, after 50 years of marriage. Col. Hughes entered the Army on October 19th, 1942. He was commissioned to 2nd Lieutenant on October 23rd, 1943, a month before his marriage to Ann in Herrin, Illinois. Col. Hughes recieved five Purple Hearts, two Distinguished Service Crosses, and numerous other decorations for Heroic Actions and Meritorious Service during his service in World War II., Korea, and Viet Nam. His qualifications include: Infantryman, Parachutist, Ski Trooper, Army Aviator, and Tactics Instructor. His strong faith was of the Presbyterian Religeon. He was preceded in death by his loving, devoted wife Ann, his proud parents, and his dedicated son Dennis Fox Hughes who was killed in action in Viet Nam. He is survived by: two sons, Lon C. Hughes of Fort Collins, Colorado and Mark Allen Hughes of Aurora, Colorado. And three grandsons, Grant, Blake, and Brett. Colonel John C.
