More detail on this person: Lieutenant Colonel James R Hughes, 56 OBITUARIES Fort Worth Star-Telegram (TX) - Friday, January 14, 1994 FORT WORTH - James R. Hughes Jr., a retired Army lieutenant colonel and telecommunication specialist for the General Services Administration, died Wednesday at home. He was 56. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Overton Park United Methodist Church, where he was a member. Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Memorial Park Cemetery in Oklahoma City. Thompson's Harveson & Cole Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Lt. Col. Hughes was born in Elk City, Okla., and was raised in Oklahoma City. He was a graduate of Texas Christian University with a degree in business and earned a master's degree in criminal justice from American Technological University. Lt. Col. Hughes and his wife spent 20 years in various Army assignments. He was a master Army aviator and logician, and during the 1970s he worked for several years as a test pilot for Bell Helicopter. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star and 22 Air Medals. He was a Mason and a hunting safety instructor for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. The family suggests that memorials be made to Harris Hospice, Overton Park United Methodist Church or a charity of choice. Survivors: Wife, Nelda Faye Hughes of Fort Worth; two daughters, Vicki Nutt of Fort Smith, Ark., and Jennifer Lynn Hughes of Dallas; mother, Hazel Grant Hughes of Arlington; and two grandchildren.
