I am saddened to announce that a former member of the VHPA, Joseph L. Klesen, 63, of Bella Vista, Arkansas died, after a very brief battle with cancer, on September 23, 2009.

He was born in New Kensington, PA and raised around the world; graduating from Chalmette High School in New Orleans in 1964 and enlisting in the US Army. He was a member, and graduated with, Flight School Class 67-19 and served two tours in Vietnam with 7/17 CAV and B/7/1, "Dutch Master 31" (68) and the 307th ATC in 1971, where he was awarded the Silver Star and numerous other service and campaign awards. He accepted a Direct Commission and served in various ground and aviation assignments until his retirement, as a Major, in 1985.

Following his military career, Joe was a pilot for the Angel One Children's Hospital in Little Rock, Arkansas and in 1993 began a career in the transportation industry with JB Hunt and Ryder Integrated Logistics. He retired to Bella Vista, Arkansas, working for a short time for Wal Mart . In 2007 he retired to a life of friends and golf.

He is survived by his wife, Gail Klesen; one daughter, Stacy Klesen and a step-daughter, Karen Buckland.

He will be missed by many_
