More detail on this person: Walter Edward Kidwell Walter E. Kidwell passed away on April 8, 2008. Walt was born on November 16, 1935, in Arlington, Virginia. He graduated from the Virginia Military Institute in 1957 and began a 20-year career as an officer in the United States Army. Walt qualified in Airborne, Ranger, and Flight Schools. Flying was his passion. He served in Korea, two tours in Vietnam, Germany, and various locations in the United States. Among Walt's many awards are the Distinguished Flying Cross with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Silver Star, and the Bronze Star. Walt married Lily Boghossian in 1958. They had two boys, Michael and Steven. Walt was stationed in Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas for his final assignments and retired from the military as a Lieutenant Colonel. The Kidwell family remained in the Leavenworth/Kansas City area as Walt began his second successful career in family financial planning. Walt had been retired since 1989. Since then he saw his boys start their own families and was able to enjoy his five grandchildren living in the Kansas City area. Walt enjoyed bird hunting, German cars, and was an active racquetball player well into his 60s. Until recently he also enjoyed weekly OB (Old Bastard) meetings with friends and colleagues at the Ft. Leavenworth golf course clubhouse. Walt was preceded in death by his father, Birtrum, mother Lucille, and older brother, Birt. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 24, at the Leavenworth Riverfront Community Center, 123 S. Esplanade, Leavenworth, Kansas. Immediately following, Walt's remains will be interred with Military Funeral Honors at the Ft. Leavenworth National Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests you consider a memorial donation to Kansas City Hospice & Palliative Care. Flowers left for Walter Kidwell I was your jeep driver in Germany. We had a lot of fun together while doing our jobs. You were the man that we all wish we would grow up to be. Too bad I am just now finding you . Hoping you had a wonderful life and those you cared the most about too. I wish I had a picture to post here.
