More detail on this person: James D. Kidder Retired Army Col. James D. Kidder, 80, of Fayetteville died Thursday in his home. Mr. Kidder was a West Point graduate of the class of 1943. He was a veteran of World War II and the Vietnam War. Mr. Kidder received the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Silver Star and the Distinguished Flying Cross. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Highland Presbyterian Church by Dr. Ernest Johnson. Burial will be at 9 a.m. Jan. 31 in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va. Mr. Kidder is survived by his wife, Bettie Y. Kidder of the home; five sons, James L. Kidder of Fort Myers, Fla., Dr. Robert S. Kidder of Roanoke, Va., Col. John A. Kidder of Fort Bragg, Col. Steve. D. Kidder of Carlisle Barracks, Pa., and Bruce L. Kidder of Lansing, Kan.; a daughter, Anne K. Totten of Knoxville, Tenn.; a brother, Stanley R. Kidder of Roseburg, Ore.; and 18 grandchildren. The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Highland Presbyterian Church, 111 Highland Ave., Fayetteville, N.C. 28305; or to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 35752, Fayetteville, N.C. 28303.
