More detail on this person: Jose Luis Martinez
passed away on May 20, 2015, on the
Mediterranean Sea, while on the trip of a
lifetime. Jose was devoted to his family and
friends and especially to his wife, children and
grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years,
Patricia; their children, Elda (Peter), Jacob
"Tony", Evaristo IV (Jalena) and Maria; his
grandchildren, Maya, Richie, Eloy, Tommy,
Allyson, Keadan and Evaristo V; siblings, Elida
(Hermenegildo), Rosa, Belda (Manuel), Armando
and Jorge (Anna); father in law, James; and many
loving cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
He is also survived by the Ruthless Riders, his
devoted brothers of A Troop, 7th Squadron 17th Air
Cavalry. He is preceded in death by his parents,
Sara and Eloy; siblings, Eloy, Sara, Elda Ana,
Alonzo and Maria Eugenia. Jose Luis was born on
June 20, 1946 in Mission, Texas, the fifth of
eleven children. He spent his childhood admiring
his parents, and enjoying every moment spent with
his family - whether in the fields, on a ranch or
on the road, he loved telling stories of his
youth. He graduated from Brackenridge High School
in 1966 and volunteered for service in the Army to
go to Vietnam, where he was awarded the
Distinguished Flying Cross. While his children
loved to tease him about the many jobs he held
through the years, the one of which he was most
proud, and did best, was father.
Jose will be best remembered for his big laugh,
and an even bigger heart. He enjoyed life to its
fullest until the very end. He will be missed for
the example he set and the love he shared.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations
be sent to The Trooper Fund, with checks payable
