Modler FRIDAY, OCTOBER 01, 2004 OBITUARIES Palatka Daily News (FL) - Friday, October 1, 2004 Michael William "Mike" Modler, 64, of Melrose, died Thursday, September 9, 2004 at his residence. He was born in Sterling, Ill., and had been a resident of Melrose for the past 10 years, coming from New York, N.Y. He was a Catholic. He retired from the U.S. Army as a major following 20 years of service. While serving with the Army he was a helicopter pilot having served two tours of duty in Vietnam. He had worked at the Florida State Prison in Raiford as a guard. He enjoyed reading, especially westerns. He was preceded in death by his wife: Peggy Modler; one brother: Walter Modler; his father: Walter Modler; and his mother and stepfather: Olive and Vernon Lawrence. He is survived by one son: Marc A. Modler of Ridgefield, Wash. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 1101 N. Lake Destiny Road, Suite 415, Maitland, FL 32751. Private services will be held at a later date.
