Martens, 79, was called home to eternal rest and glory by his Lord and King on Friday, November 25, 2005. Roy was born in the Town of Lake on February 27, 1926. Roy was a dedicated, faithful soldier for his God and country, serving courageously in the United States Army for 21 years through three wars, and humbly and diligently his church in many ways, but most notably as an advocate for pure Biblical doctrine. Roy is survived by his wife of 58 years, Shirley A. (nee: Bagley) Martens; three children, Vaughn R. (Sandra) Martens, Valerie L. (Don) Vanderbrook, and Vanessa M. (Butch) Luther; three grandchildren, Timothy R. Martens, Jonathan V. Martens, and Emily A. Vanderbrook; and extended family of brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, and cousins. His wisdom and quick wit will be keenly missed by them, his dear, dear friends, and all that knew him. Funeral services for Roy will be held at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 4649 Lora Avenue, on Thursday, December 1, 2005, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Hilbert Kamps officiating. Interment will follow at Caledonia Memorial Park with full Military Honors. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the church on Thursday morning from 9:45 a.m. until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Redeemer Lutheran Church. The family of Roy wishes to extend their deepest thanks to Dr. Puffer and Heidi, the staff at All Saints from 2D, the Infusion Clinic, the Cancer Clinic, and the staff from the Hospice Alliance of Kenosha for their genuine compassion and dedicated, loving care shown to Roy and his family during his illness.
