More detail on this person: Lt. Col. (Ret) Gerald Stanley Pate, Sr. Lt. Col. (Ret) Gerald Stanley Pate, Sr. age 73 of Murfreesboro, passed away Thursday, January 12, 2006 at Middle TN Medical Center. A native of Rutherford County he retired from the U. S. Marines after 24 years of service. He was awarded the Silver Star Medal Distinguished Flying Cross; Purple Heart; National Defense Service Medal; Vietnam Service Medal with 4 stars; Navy Unit Commendation Medal with 1 star; Air Medal/22nd; Vietnam Cross of Gallantry; Marine Corps Expeditionary Medal; Combat Action Ribbon; Meritorious Unit Commendation; Presidential Unit Citation; Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal w/device; Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Commendation Cross of Gallantry w/gold star and Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Commendation Civil Action Medal Color (1st C1) w/ Palm and Frame. He was a member of First United Methodist Church. Lt. Col. Pate received his Doctorate in Education and was a professor in the Management and Marketing Dept. at MTSU for 10 years. Lt. Col. Pate was preceded in death by his father, the late Dooley Pate and two sons; Gerald S. Pate, Jr. and David Gentry Pate. He is survived by his wife Donna Wiedrich Pate of Murfreesboro; mother Mattie Austin Pate of Atlanta, GA; sons Bruce Edwin Pate of Cecilia, KY, Gary Alan Pate of New Jersey, Russell Lee Pate and Randall George Pate of Baltimore, MD; daughters Patricia Frazier Ward and Carolyn Littlefield both of Murfreesboro; brother James Ronald Pate of VA; sister Judy Pigg of Atlanta, GA; thirteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral service for Lt. Col. Pate will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Jennings and Ayers Chapel with Michael O'Bannon officiating and burial in Evergreen Cemetery. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to MTMC Foundation Cancer Fund
