More detail on this person: SCHILLEREFF, John M., 59, of Shadyside, died Tuesday, April 6, 2010, at his home.

John was born September 19, 1950, in Seattle, Wash., a son of the late Gene Schillereff and Betty Munn Simms.

He was retired from the U.S. Army as a CW4, having served his country faithfully for 30 years. John was a highly decorated combat helicopter pilot serving multiple tours with 1st Battallion 9th Cavalry 1st Air Cavalry Division in Vietnam.

He was a graduate of the Puget Sound University with a degree in Chemistry and Biology and a minor in Theology.

John was an accomplished poet with several Poet Laureate Awards. He was a member of the DAV Post 117 Bellaire serving as their Service Officer and Vice Commander and a member of the Purple Heart Society and was a receipient of the Broken Wing Award. John was a successful author, pilot and engineer.

Surviving are his wife, Cheryl L. Dale Schillereff; two children, John Wagner Schillereff of Morgantown, W.Va., and Sabrina Elizabeth Schillereff of Pittsburgh; one sister, Robin Taylor of New York City; one brother, Phillip Taylor in Alaska and one stepson, Dr. Anthony B. Lowe of Martinsburg, W.Va.; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, James and Agnes Dale of Logan, W.Va.

Family and friends will be received at the Bauknecht-Altmeyer Funeral Homes & Crematory, 3900 Central Avenue, Shadyside, on Saturday April 10, 2010 from 11 a.m. until time of services at 1 p.m. with Minister James Dale officiating. Interment with full military honors will be held in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va. DAV Post 117 will conduct military honors on Saturday at 12:45 p.m. at the funeral home.
