More detail on this person: James Manuel Thompson James was born 'James Manuel Gilchrist' on November 3, 1944 to (Corporal) James E Gilchrist (1922, 2004) and Emma Jane Brown (1920, 2005), in Newark, Essex County, New Jersey, USA. After WW II, the family moved to South Dakota. James and Emma divorced in the early 1950s and Emma remarried to Everett L Thompson. James received Everett's surname becoming James Manuel Thompson. Jim Thompson graduated from Mandan High School (Mandan, North Dakota) in 1962. In 1966, Jim graduated from U of ND with a 'BA' in Natural Science. Shortly thereafter, (e.g. Jan 1967), Jim married Rodine Marshall. Jim enlisted in the Marine Corps about 1968. While with the Marines, Jim trained to fly helicopters. During his tour of duty in Vietnam, Jim flew helicopter 'Medivac' missions, evacuating wounded and other soldiers in danger from 'hot' landing zones. The 1970 US census shows Jim residing in Mandan, Morton County, North Dakota. He joined the North Dakota (Air) National Guard, on May 27, 1973. Also in 1973, Jim and Rodine's son, Jason James Thompson, was born. In 1981, Jim established his own company, an environmental resource consulting company based in Bismark, North Dakota. Jim's consulting company focused on mining companies as customers, and specialized in providing guidance on how to reconvert mines and quarries back to wetlands. Jim and Rodine divorced in the 1990's and Rodine moved to Florida. Jim spent the majority of his retirement in the Ft.
