More detail on this person: Major Alvin Harrison Turner Major Alvin Harrison Turner June 27, 1931- December 30, 2005 COLUMBUS, GA- Major Alvin Harrison Turner (U.S. Army Retired) age 74, of Columbus died Friday, December 30, 2005 at his residence. Graveside funeral services with full military honors will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 3, 2006 at Fort Benning Main Post Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at McMullen Funeral Home, 3874 Gentian Blvd., Columbus. Born in Garrison, Iowa, Alvin was the son of Edward and Vera (Merchant) Turner. He married Doris Stephenson on September 16, 1952. He retired in 1972 as a Major after 20 years in the U. S. Army, having served several tours in Viet Nam as a helicopter pilot. "Honest Al" went on to graduate with a Business degree from Columbus College. He owned and operated Janus Enterprises, a Columbus picture frame and cabinet shop. "Mr. Janus", as many of his customers called him, had a huge heart and would do anything in his power to satisfy a customer, help out an employee, or meet the needs of his family. Survivors include his wife Doris of Columbus; 2 daughters, Shelly Herrington of Columbus, and Stephanie Mishkofski (Tim) of Colorado Springs, CO; 2 sons, Stephen Turner (Christina) of Tybee Island and Stacy Turner (Marlix) of Panama City, FL; 3 sisters, Shirley Pippert and Wanda Gingrich, both of Vinton, IA, and Sharon Turner of Chicago, IL; 3 brothers, Eugene Turner of Cedar Rapids, IA, Delano Turner of Portland, OR, and William Edward Turner of Rye, NY; 3 grandchildren, Maxwell Herrington, and Timothy and Alexandra Turner.
