More detail on this person: Michael Scott Van Sickle, 58, lawyer, West Morris graduate Michael Scott Van Sickle of Camarillo, Calif., died of cancer on Tuesday, June 3, 2003, in Ventura, Calif. He was 58. He graduated from the class of 1962 at West Morris Central High School. He later graduated from Northeastern University in Boston in 1967 with a bachelor's degree in history and political science. He entered the Army that September, attended Officer Candidate School and was commissioned a second lieutenant in June 1968. He received his wings as an Army Aviator in December 1969 and shipped out to Viet Nam, where he served with the 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile), in the 220th Aerial Rocket Artillery (Blue Max), flew Cobra helicopters and served as an Aviation Maintenance Officer. On returning to the states in 1971, he served as an instructor at the Army Aviation School, Fort Rucker, Ala. He left active duty in 1973 with the rank of captain. He worked in the life insurance industry until 1980, when he attended Santa Barbara (Calif.) College of Law at night and worked as a legal assistant during the day. Graduating in June 1984, he was admitted to the California Bar Association in January 1985. He was in private practice for 16 years, specializing in probate, family law and bankruptcy until becoming the Court Managing Attorney for the Superior Court of California, County of Ventura. He was a board member of the Salvation Army and the First Baptist Day School in Ventura. He was a member of the California and Ventura County bar associations and of the Viet Nam Helicopter Pilots Association. Survivors include his wife, Judy and a daughter, Jennifer Lynn Van Sickle, both of Camarillo; his mother, Hertha Van Sickle, formerly of the Mendham-Chester area; a sister, Susan, and her husband, Dr. Matthew Ely and a niece, Katherine Ely, all of West Hartford, Conn.; his former wife, Marti Van Sickle; a cousin, Thelma McNulty of Washington in Warren County; and many relatives in Morris County and school friends . A celebration of life service conducted by Pastor Milt Davis will be held on Friday, June 13, in the chapel at Pierce Brothers Griffin Mortuary, 1075 East Daily Drive, Camarillo, Calif.
