More detail on this person: VORHOLT Gerald E., age 75, of Washington Township, passed away Saturday, August 22, 2015. He was born on January 30, 1940 in Cincinnati to Frank and Jean Paulette Vorholt. He was preceded in death by his father. He is survived by his loving mother Jean, devoted wife of 46 years, Kay; children Catherine (Bill) Gehr and Steven Vorholt (fiance Madeline Gallegos); grandchildren Emily, Carissa & Trinity Gehr; siblings Elaine, James (Sandi), Thomas (Connie) and Paul (Sharon) Vorholt; many nieces and nephews; as well as other relatives and friends. Gerald graduated from Elder High School in 1958. He earned a B.S. degree in Business Administration with a major in Economics and a minor in Accounting from Xavier University in 1962. Gerald was a 1st Lieutenant and a flight leader assigned to the 120th Aviation Company at Saigon, Tan Son Nhut, South Vietnam. As an army helicopter pilot, he flew three to four missions a day. He was awarded numerous U.S. Army Air Medals and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry while flying combat support missions. Also before leaving Vietnam, Gerald was awarded The Distinguished Flying Cross. After leaving Vietnam, he graduated from the Helicopter Instructor Pilot course and was assigned as an Instructor Pilot to the U.S. Army Aviation School at Fort Rucker, AL. He was honorably discharged as a Captain from the Army in June of 1968. After leaving the Army, Gerald flew for PHI in the Gulf of Mexico for a year, and then went on in his professional career as an air traffic controller for the Federal Aviation Administration for 37 years before retiring in 2007. He was a parishioner at the Church of the Incarnation. He was a member of the American Legion Post 598. He will be tremendously missed by his family, friends, and his dog Sausage. The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 27th from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Church of the Incarnation, 7415 Far Hills Ave., Centerville, Ohio 45459, with the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Burial Calvary Cemetery.
