More detail on this person: Carl "Doc" Waterman was born February 23, 1944 in Kellogg. When WWII ended the family moved to Salmon where his father worked in construction. In Salmon, Waterman learned the value of honest work, personal integrity, respect for others and a love and appreciation for nature.

After excelling scholastically (where he earned the nickname "Doc" he joined the United States Army flying helicopters in Vietnam. While there he received the Purple Heart and many awards for his services, including the Distinguished Flying Cross, 20 awards (14th - 33rd) of the Air Medal, the Bronze Medal for heroism and the Army Commendation Medal. Because of his superior aircraft skills he was selected to test fly evaluate experimental military aircraft.

After leaving military service, Waterman flew helicopters and worked several jobs until he went to Craig, Alaska where he worked for Klawock Heena Corp and became Klawock City administrator.

Valuing community service, Waterman served on Craig's Planning and Zoning Committee, Craig City School Board, POW Chamber of Commerce, and the Alaska Girl Scout Advisory council. During this time he was married to Lori and they had two children, Geoffrey and Rachelle.

After the tragic death of his wife, Lori, Waterman married Deborah Boroski who provided another daughter, Samantha Nielsen and three grandchildren. They deccided it was time to retire so they moved to Silver City, New Mexico looking for a milder climate.

Waterman loved Alaska and requested that his ashes would be scattered there later this summer. As a final tribute, many of his family and friends are committed to planting some trees in his remembrance. There will always be a warm spot in our hearts for him and the kind of man he was.

Waterman went to be wih his Lord and Savior March 18, 2015 after a long battle with cancer. He was proceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Ester; two older sisters Marda and Ernestine (Teeny); and wife Lori.

He is survived by his second wife Deborah; stepdaughter Samantha and three greandchildren; two children. Geoffrey and Rachelle; two older brothers, Francis of Wittman, Arizona and Phillip of Salmon; extened family and many friends.
