More detail on this person: Francis Eugene Woith DEATHS Pantagraph, The (Bloomington, IL) - Sunday, October 16, 2005 BLOOMINGTON -- Francis Eugene Woith, 74, of 3 Spring Ridge Circle, Bloomington, died at 3:08 p.m. Friday (Oct. 14, 2005) at ManorCare Health Services, Normal. His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington. Burial will be in East Lawn Memorial Gardens, Bloomington, with a military service conducted by Carl S. Martin American Legion Post 635. The Rev. Rob Roy will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the memorial home. Memorials may be made to American Parkinson Disease Association. He was born March 17, 1931, in Bloomington, the son of Francis Henry Woith and Clara Irene Cotner Woith. He married Betty J. Schrimper Dec. 31, 1966, at Fort Sill, Okla. She survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Vanessa Woith, Lawton, Okla., and Vondah Stockbridge, Norman, Okla.; a son, Randall M. (Robin) Woith, Frisco, Texas; three grandchildren, Samuel G. Stockbridge, Randall Parker Stockbridge and Colton Woith; and a half brother, Patrick (Devon) Phillips, Camden, Maine. His parents preceded him in death. He was a member of Park United Methodist Church, Bloomington. Mr. Woith entered the Army in 1947 and served in the Korean conflict with the 187th Airborne Regimental Combat Team. He left active duty in 1953 but remained a member of the reserves while attending the University of Oklahoma, where he was qualified as an Army aviator in 1956. Re-entering active duty in 1961, he was assigned to Fort Sill, Okla., as a field artillery group aviation officer. From October 1963 to October 1964, he flew troop-carrying and gunship helicopters for the 117th Helicopter Co. in Vietnam. In 1967, he returned to Vietnam as operations officer of the 205th Assault Support Helicopter Co. During 1968-70, he served in various positions at Fort Sill, Fort Campbell, Ky., and in the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. These included service as director of plans and training at Fort Campbell and in several capacities with the personnel office of the Pentagon. Col. Woith received his colonelship in 1975 and retired from service in August 1977. He was decorated numerous times during his career, including being awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, a Purple Heart, two awards of the Bronze Star Medal, two awards of the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal and various other service awards. Col. Woith was an engineering graduate of the University of Omaha, Neb., a graduate of the field artillery's basic officer and advanced officer classes and the Army's Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kan. He obtained his juris doctorate in law from the University of Oklahoma and returned in 1980 with his wife to Bloomington, where he did title work for Marathon Petroleum Co.
