" John Andrew Wootress passed away in Vancouver, WA on July 16, 2010 at the age of 80. He was born on Oct. 17, 1929 in Wichita, KS to Christopher and Thelma Wootress. John married Charmaine Boothe on June 30, 1956. He served in the U.S. Army for 26 years. John's military career included service as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne, the 10th Special Forces Group as a demolition specialist, and as a Chief Warrant Officer in Aviation. John served three combat tours which included, one combat tour in Korea and two combat tours in Vietnam. Being a soldier was his life. After he retired from the Army he worked as a senior tech for the nuclear physics lab at the University of Washington. John was an avid aviator, he enjoyed tinkering and restoring engines, reading, watching the Seattle Mariners and Seahawks, and taking trips to the coast. He was a member of the Catholic faith. John is survived by two daughters, Gwenna Wootress of Sherwood, OR and Katie Bohannon of Vancouver, WA; two sons, John Wootress Jr. of Los Angeles, CA and Richard Wootress of Seattle, WA; three granddaughters and four grandsons. He was preceded in death by his wife, Charmaine, on June 5, 1999; and a daughter, Wendy Wootress, on December 11, 2000. A Celebration of John's Life will be at the family home. Inurnment with Full Military Honors will be held at a later time in Ilwaco Cemetery. Contributions can be made to the Vancouver Chapters of the American Heart Association or the Alzheimer's Foundation.
