More detail on this person: Martin R. Walker Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 11, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. in Christ Gospel Church in Lafayette for Martin R. Walker, age 60, to be joined with the Lord, who passed away Sunday, August 9, 2009 at 12:20 a.m. at his residence in Carencro. He left his earthly home after a fourteen-year battle with lung disease. Interment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens in Lafayette. The Rev. Ken Daugherty, pastor of Christ Gospel Church in Lafayette, will officiate at the services. Mr. Walker was a native of Waynesboro, Mississippi, and a resident of Carencro for the past thirty-two years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps from 1966-1976, serving as a helicopter crew chief in the Vietnam War. Rusty worked in the oil field for LEAM Directional Drilling for twenty years. He also served as a reserve officer with the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Department for eight years. Mr. Walker was a member of Christ Gospel Church of Lafayette for thirty-two years, servings as a board member, minister and deacon. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend. Mr. Walker was dedicated and passionate in his service to his Lord. He gave selflessly of himself to his family, church and community and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Rusty was a tremendous patriarch to his family and leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of thirty two years, Barbara Brister Walker, of Carencro; one son, William Michael Walker and his wife, Dana, of Carencro; three daughters, Jennifer Walker Carriere and her husband, Kevin, of Lafayette, Tracey Guidry, of Houston and Kelly Farve and her husband, Chris, of Dallas; thirteen grandchildren, Jordan Carriere, Benjamin Carriere, Christian Carriere, Julianna Rose Carriere, Madison Walker, Abigail Walker, Hannah Kate Walker, Emma Claire Walker, Christopher Favre, Matthew Favre, Jacob Favre, Adam Favre and Rose Favre; his loving father, Glenn Walker, of Opelousas; and three brothers, Rodney Walker and his wife, Charlotte, of Sulphur, Andy Walker and his wife, Sarah, of Basile and Dane Walker and his wife, Evalina, of Lafayette. He was preceded in death by his mother the former Alice Clark. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at the Christ Gospel Church, 231 Stone Ave. Lafayette, LA 70507 from 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. Monday and will continue from 9:00 a.m. until service time on Tuesday.
